Hizz Lounge

Started in 2017 as a collaboration between co-founders Abass El-Hage and Adam Shaalan, Hizz is a collective, record label, artist residency, and event series focused on independent music from the Arab/African world and diaspora. The 2 cities were natural choices for this project with Detroit being home to largest arab population outside the middle east and Cairo being the cultural capital of the arab world. This dual city setup has also fostered cross cultural collaborations with numerous Detroit based artists doing residencies and performing in Cairo. Hizz has won international recognition and been featured by institutions such as the Sharjah Art Foundation, Nobel Foundation, and Wired magazine for its grass roots style and inclusive approach. As we approach our 10yr anniversary, we have now branched out with international touring for our artists as well as worldwide distribution through partners like Boomkat, Submerge, and others.
