On Friday, June 12th, Material and McGinnis will bring their masterful vinyl selections to the Cardinal Bar for a birthday soirée edition of Dreaming of a Disco. This pair of Chicago heavy hitters will take our dance floor on a trip with musical magic around every corner. Material is a Chicago DJ making a name for themselves in the underground scene. A partner and co-resident with Darryn Jones at the elusive & lauded Durty Truth party, Material plays strictly records and is heavily influenced by the Chicago tradition. When they aren’t digging through crates in Chicago, Material mixes together genres to create a sound that combines the sound of Chicago with their other influences and interests. Material has promoted and worked with Deon Jamar, Tone B Nimble, KC Wray, Ricardo Roessel, Garrett David, Tommaso, & Erica Kane at The Post in Chicago. Following The Post shutdown, they started the Durty Truth party with Darryn Jones which has become a staple of the underground scene, welcoming living legends such as Traxx, Mark Grusane, Ge-Ology, Sadar Bahar and more. Bringing Material to Madison has long been a goal for Dreaming of a Disco and we are over the moon excited for their selections to dazzle and delight the dancers of the Cardinal Bar. Joining Material and opening the night is the one and only McGinnis He is no stranger to Madison’s dancers, rocking the Cardinal Bar both as a guest at the disco and as a member of the JAMS crew. McGinnis does it all, curating his own events with Wax Appeal, hosting the long-running Spinzone radio show on WSUM, and playing regularly at hot spots in Chicago and Minneapolis. He was even invited out to LA for a set at the esteemed Sunday Sessions party just a little while ago. Material and McGinnis will deliver the goods on Friday June 12th for what’s sure to be a special night at the Cardinal Bar.
