Apricot Ballroom is an audiophile psychedelic party based in Sheffield. We’ve been throwing these parties since early 2018, and have been running and gradually building an audiophile Klipschorn-based sound system alongside since day one, which we now use at all of our parties. The events we throw are guided heavily by the ethos and mentality of David Mancuso’s Loft parties in New York. We were inspired by visiting its sister parties in London (Lucky Cloud/Beauty & the Beat), where we found a format that allowed us to take the sort of parties we’d been throwing in our houses out in to larger spaces while retaining that house party vibe. In between our own parties we’ve been pushing the audiophile sound wherever we can around Sheffield, providing the sound system (alongside our residents Joi La Frique & Nonna Fab on DJ duties) at everything from cosy city centre bars, to intimate private festivals in the peak district, by way of basements, courtyards, art galleries, and house parties.
