At 2,600 metres above sea level, where cold mountain air meets the density and velocity of Bogotá, Ultrabruma finds its point of departure. The project brings together Brenda and Maria Manuela, two Colombian producers and DJs whose individual trajectories converge around a shared fascination with rhythm, emotion and sonic world-building. What began as a creative affinity gradually evolved into a collaborative language of its own: one that moves effortlessly between the local and the global, drawing equally from the realities of contemporary Bogotá and the ever-expanding vocabulary of international club music. Their output navigates fluidly across contemporary electronic music while retaining a singular point of view. Rather than operating within fixed genres, Ultrabruma works through intersections: techno's spatial architecture collides with the emotional charge of pop songwriting; dub-informed low-end pressure coexists with intricate rhythmic vocabularies drawn from the Caribbean, South Asia and the African diaspora. At the centre of their practice lies a fascination with contrast. Tension and softness, functionality and experimentation, intimacy and physicality are treated not as opposites but as mutually reinforcing forces. Whether in the studio or behind the decks, every decision is informed by a meticulous attention to sound design, texture and narrative flow.
