Subcultures is a storyteller. With his extensive vinyl collection and a knack for artful mixing, the Brooklyn-based DJ uncovers the emotional undercurrents within electronic music and conjures states of exuberance, introspection and revelation, while locking dancers into an ever-thrilling chain of inventive rhythms and driving beats. His penchant for melody and narrative comes through in his unique and often subversive selections, which draw from a love of early 90s trance, progressive house, electro and IDM, as well as his attraction to genre-defying, enigmatic record finds. A Subcultures set is guaranteed to be audacious and full of feeling, showcasing a fearless queer sensibility and an unbreakable spiritual connection to music. Subcultures has DJed for a range of parties and venues in Brooklyn the last two years, playing a mix of club and downtempo sets. He co-runs the bi-monthly queer party Community Hole (@communityhole_nyc) and has organized events at Earthly Delights, Honey’s and Jade Bar.
