QuantumCurrents

QuantumCurrents is the electronic music project of Zhenghan Cao, a producer, DJ, and audiovisual creator from Beijing, now based in Baltimore. He is pursuing a bachelor’s degree in Computer Music at the Peabody Institute of Johns Hopkins University, bringing together his interests in electronic composition, sound design, and visual media. Drawing from house, techno, IDM, and ambient, Cao explores the relationship between the physical impact of rhythm and the finer details of sound. His approach favors clean, punchy production, distinctive textures, and a balance between dance-floor energy and atmospheric depth. He treats sound design as a starting point for composition, looking for musical possibilities in the character and movement of individual sounds. His practice extends beyond audio into 3D animation and audio-reactive visuals. Working across music and visual production, he explores how images can respond to—and become part of—the structure of a piece. He is currently developing a hybrid audiovisual performance project that brings together DJing, original electronic music, and custom visuals. At the heart of QuantumCurrents is a hands-on relationship with technology: designing sounds, building visual worlds, and finding ways to bring them into performance. His aim is to make music that rewards close listening without losing the immediacy of rhythm.
