Pr0xima
Biografía
A queer artist carving out her own space in Portland, Pr0xima plays with her listener’s expectations in exciting, creative, and unexpectedly transcendent ways. Her sound gravitates towards the harder, darker, acidic and industrial sounds demonstrated in her most recent EP "THE NEXT", though tracks leaning towards a more stripped back sound and a focus on honed grooves, syncopation, and an ethereal quality are in development. Driven to contribute to the new generation of techno, and influenced by a deep appreciation and respect for its historical canon, Pr0xima focuses on bringing classic sounds to the forefront of modernity. Her love for acidic 303 sequences has played a major role in her sound. The decision to embark on this project was spurred on by the almost siren-like pull of that sweet, sweet, silver box. When not working on production, Pr0xima can be found performing live synth hardware sets with groups like The Volt Divers and Nightbloom.
Her fascination with electronic music can be traced back to the age of 6, listening to her father playing Underworld's Dubnobasswithmyheadman album nearly every morning on the way to school. Since then her taste in electronic music has broadened greatly. Influenced by artists like Underworld, System 7, Plastikman-era Richie Hawtin, Green Velvet, Gaiser, Nikki Istrefi, Gesaffelstein, Sven Väth and more, the Pr0xima project continues a driving sound since its inception in late 2022.
