Descripción
Located on Hegreneset in Sandviken, the former Hæggernæs Valsemølle dates back to 1868 and remained in continuous operation until 1992. As Western Norway’s first steam-powered mill, it marked a new era in local industry — a striking landmark at Bergen’s harbor entrance. Over more than two centuries, the site has evolved into a distinctive architectural complex that tells the story of Sandviken’s industrial and cultural growth.
Today, the historic mill enters a new chapter. Under the direction of Disrupt (Disrupting AS), Valsemøllen is being transformed into Bergen’s new industrial hub for creativity, development, and culture. The spaces are being carefully restored to highlight their raw, authentic character — robust concrete, rustic charm, and an atmosphere charged with history.
