Tulum Detroit is a new tropical bar and cultural venue located inside the historic El Zócalo building in Southwest Detroit, created in collaboration with Taqueria El Rey and curated by Fiesta Vibes and We Are Culture Creators. After a devastating fire closed their original Vernor location in 2022, the Taqueria El Rey family chose to rebuild their vision within the landmark El Zócalo building — transforming it into a multi-use hub for food, music, and culture in Mexicantown. The space now houses their reimagined taqueria alongside Tulum Detroit, a tropical-themed bar and patio inspired by the lush energy of Mexico’s Caribbean coast. Designed as a vibrant social escape, Tulum blends natural materials, greenery, and warm lighting with Detroit’s underground energy. The venue offers a spacious bar, open-air patio, and curated programming of DJs, art activations, and community events. From Latin house and Afro-tropical beats to reggaeton, cumbia, and soulful global rhythms, every night at Tulum Detroit channels a sense of connection, rhythm, and cultural pride. Rooted in collaboration between local creatives and longtime community icons, Tulum Detroit is more than a nightlife spot — it’s the next chapter in Southwest Detroit’s cultural story, uniting flavor, sound, and spirit under one roof.
