Anyone that is familiar with East Atlanta Village and has visited the venues on the 1200 block of Glenwood Avenue knows or should know that each is equipped with a sizable basement area. Though others such as Cenci and Gravity Pub have opened the lower recesses, known have succeed because of the building codes and renovations necessary to make the space fit for public access. The first to successfully make use of their under-belly is The Basement, The Graveyard Tavern's new live music venue and dance club. For months before the opening, rumors circulated and the hype was building about the nightclub that Graveyard Tavern planned to open to accommodate a bigger crowd and serve up an incredible sound system that promise to keep your feet moving. When the doors finally opened to to public for the first time on St. Patrick's Day 2011, everyone was surprised by how much was done to this area to make it a top contender for the Best of Atlanta Nightclub. The wrap-around bar carries a daunting selection of beers, wines, and alcohol with line of wood booths directly across. The stage area is almost eye-level to the audience and covers almost three-quarters of the wall with a lounge area in the end. Once you walk past the line of wooden booths, there sits another lounge area complete with a scarlet red bed, definitely a public indecency charge waiting to happen. Graffiti lines the walls in various places and was supplied by EAV regulars, Brian Pittman, Dax, and 13 Roses' John Hinkemeyer.
