The oldest building in Bures, St Stephen's Chapel is a delightful thatched building, once the private chapel of Tauney manor. The chapel dates to 1218, when it was officially consecrated by the Archbishop of Canterbury on the traditional site where St Edmund, King of the East Angles, was crowned in AD 855.
