Descripción

We believe that there is no such thing as neutral art. Nor neutral space. Nor innocent culture. Penhasco was born from the need to create an autonomous space in a context where culture is often captured by market logics, institutionalization, and real estate valuation. Located in a former textile factory, we affirm the transformation of space as a political act: to produce not merchandise, but critical thought, encounter, and collective imagination. We are a cooperative because we reject the concentration of power. We share decisions, responsibilities, and processes. We value collective creation above isolated authorship. We work from the ground up and with the community—not as a consumer audience, but as an active participant. We recognize that culture can either reproduce exclusions or challenge them. We choose to challenge them. We support interdisciplinary, socially engaged, and politically conscious artistic practices. We create space for dissenting voices, for productive conflict, for experimentation, and for the redistribution of centrality. We believe in culture as a common good. In art as a practice of denaturalization. In cooperation as a form of resistance. We do not exist to legitimize the dominant cultural system. We exist to question, challenge, and reinvent it. Penhasco is a gallery, a black box, a studio, and a terrace— but above all, it's a community in action. Ultimately, to create is political. P'la Penhasco Arte Cooperativa
