Myofuku-ji Temple Origin The temple was founded in 1603 by the monk Nichien, who was a follower of Tokugawa Ieyasu's concubine Oman. The temple was well protected by the shogunate, with the 15th shogun, Yoshinobu, planning to live at the temple after retirement. After the defeat at Toba-Fushimi, the temple was unable to retire to the temple, but a kuri (kitchen quarters) capable of accommodating about 170 people was built. The temple grounds were large at the time, covering an area of ​​seven chobu, but this was greatly reduced after social upheaval and World War II. The temple buildings and pagodas were destroyed in a fire in 1934. The two storehouses also caught fire, and all temple treasures related to the shoguns were lost. Records were also lost. In 1993, the main hall, guest hall, and kuri were newly built to commemorate the 350th anniversary of the death of Nichien.
