Descripción
Human Resources is a volunteer organization. Our mission is to broaden public engagement with experimental, interdisciplinary and conceptual art. We emphasize underexposed modes of expression in contemporary art. We take inspiration from our region’s rich history of independent art collectives-such as Los Angeles Institute for Contemporary Art, Woman House, Los Angeles Free Music Society, Los Angeles Contemporary Exhibitions. HRLA is a gallery and also a communal meeting ground for artists, writers, musicians, and curators. HRLA is rooted in the professional and creative expertise of its nine volunteer directors: academic, managerial, artistic, legal, musical, curatorial, and activist. Our diverse backgrounds shape our multi-disciplinary approach to organizing exhibitions, short-term installations, artist residencies, performance, screenings, sound and music, symposia, and readings. As a result, our program highlights crosscurrents in experimental practice while privileging the presentation of new work. We are dedicated to fostering new audiences for visual art, and conversation between art communities.
