The historical Gas Factory, one of the symbolic structures of Izmir, has become one of the important cultural centers of the city with the restoration carried out by the Metropolitan Municipality. The Coal Gas Factory, established in 1862, was used effectively to provide electricity to the city in the 1900s. The place, which was handed over to the municipal administration during the Republic period, became operational as a cultural center in 2008 after restoration works. The Gas Factory has a cafeteria, administrative building, reading room, art units sales building and workshop building. The Historical Gas Factory has hosted many events such as concerts, exhibitions and interviews since the day it was put into operation. The center can host 5000 people in concerts.
