The Gemeinde Köln is a project space in a pedestrian passage at Cologne's Ebertplatz and works with artists and curators as well as with specialist classes and seminars. The venue's particular concern is to present art not exclusively through the showroom format. This exhibiting also bears a connection to colonialism, where objects isolated from their environment were displayed as trophies in an exclusive building. We seek alternative paths and focus on an art that, as a mediator of knowledge, opens up new perspectives on our society and can be practiced as a communal ritual. Our goal is to get to know the motivation and individual themes of our invitees. The space hosts changing exhibitions, research residencies, concerts, discussions, workshops, and performances. The community is open to collaborations of all kinds and is home to the experimental music concert series "Bruitkasten," which was developed and organized by Impakt eV Cologne and recently received the Applaus Award. At Ebertplatz, almost all events can be attended free of charge, making it one of the few places in Cologne where no profit-making intentions are pursued.
