CitySense is one of Utrecht’s most distinctive event locations, founded by Dimitri Chalos — a true local with Greek roots who has seen the city transform over the past four decades. The name reflects its philosophy: a place where senses are activated and experiences come to life. CitySense is housed in the former Jacobi Theater, a souterrain venue with a rich history. It’s the same place where Dutch cabaret icon Tineke Schouten took her very first steps on stage 35 years ago. Hidden from the outside world, the venue reveals its magic the moment you walk through the door — a deliberate choice that turns every arrival into a moment of surprise. From day one, the concept has revolved around sensory immersion. Guests are surrounded by sound designed to captivate, visuals projected across an impressive 20-meter-wide screen, over 100 custom scents to elevate the atmosphere and food and drinks crafted to complete the experience. Every element contributes to a feeling rather than just a setting. After a decade of success, 2022 marked the moment to rethink the concept. The result: CitySense ON.OFF — a renewed positioning built on the venue’s original soul while adapting to the needs of a new era.
