Our story begins in 2015. De Zomer Van Antwerpen comes knocking on the door of SRNA, the Royal Antwerp Water Sports Association, with a request to organise a theatre performance on the shipyard''s premises. The board agrees and a bar is opened so that visitors can enjoy a drink before and after the performance. The theatre performance will be about refugees and will take place in one of the shipping containers at the shipyard. So you guessed where our name comes from. For the first few years, the summer bar lived to the rhythm of the Zomer Van Antwerpen theatre performances, but in 2018 this will change and Cafe Kamyon will sail its own course. From the start, we have felt it is important that everyone can enjoy culture in our summer bar. That is why all our events are free, we serve food and drinks at reasonable prices and our visitors, artists and neighbourhood organisations are actively involved in the design of our programme. Today, Cafe Kamyon is a welcoming place where everyone feels welcome and can do their thing.
