The Trafaria Prison is a complex built between 1908 and 1909 as a military prison, a function it maintained until the end of the 1970s. Since 2014, the Ensaios e Diálogos association has been working on reactivating the former Trafaria prison and transforming it into a space of freedom and creativity. This process of collective imagination and activation has adopted the name Prisão Paraíso. This project consists of a participatory process based on creative freedom that involves and respects the local reality, contributes to its social and environmental development, creates unique cultural experiences and calls for the democratization of public spaces. A dynamic process that continues to welcome new proposals and activities.
