Alder opened its doors in 2021, transforming what was a historic Polish factory built in 1842. Located in the vibrant Sheffield district of Kelham Island, we have turned the space into a fully-fledged music venue. Our events calendar is packed, offering a diverse mix of free and ticketed live performances at least twice a week. Genres span Jazz, Metal, Indie, Punk, Electronic Muisc, Blues, and Alternative music, alongside regular DJ sets. We are committed to supporting musicians as well as local scenes. For free entry gigs, we directly pay local bands for their performances. For ticketed events, artists keep 100% of both ticket and merchandise sales, ensuring they benefit fully from their hard work. While we primarily showcase Sheffield-based talent, we also bring in artists from further afield, particularly during major events such as Tramlines Fringe Festival, Get Together Festival, Kelham Pride, and other key celebrations. All our bookings are handled in-house by our programmer Danny, who runs the venue alongside long-time friends Joe and Jonny. Beyond music, Alder plays an active role in the local community. We share fresh herbs from our purpose-built garden with anyone in need, donating surplus herbs to Sheffield’s Zest Centre. The garden itself was built by members of a local CIC, of which we serve on the board. In an effort to keep our area clean, we offer a free beer to anyone who collects and disposes of a full bag of litter, providing both the necessary tools and waste disposal. Additionally, we host autism-friendly events and seminars focused on neurodiversity in the workplace, ensuring Alder remains an inclusive space for all. We offer up our stage to the music department of The Sheffield College, and we have been their venue of choice for the students' end of year gigs since 2023, with their next event being may of this year.
