Timmy Regisford All Night Long at Ticcle
Some DJs play records. Timmy Regisford has spent a lifetime keeping faith with the dancefloor.
Lovingly regarded simply as The Maestro – by every measure he is the dancer’s DJ.
Across four decades, his work has quietly shaped the language of modern dance music, from the creation of Club Shelter to his influential executive roles. With understated sophistication, Timmy Regisford lays bare the primal power of music and dance, free from pretence or distraction. He is one of the great custodians of black music, and one heck of a DJ.
Time dissolves with Timmy at the helm. In an era where we chase fast moments, Timmy builds journeys. His marathon sets weave together soul, gospel, disco, jazz, afro rhythms and house into something that feels like a spiritual communion.
That reputation was forged at The Shelter – the institution founded in 1991 following the closure of Paradise Garage. More than simply another nightclub, Shelter became the spiritual heartbeat of New York's underground: a weekly pilgrimage where house music reclaimed its deepest purpose. Gospel met disco. Jazz embraced Afrobeat. Strangers became family. For more than three decades it stood as a sanctuary where generations of dancers, irrespective of race, sexuality or background, gathered in pursuit of something increasingly rare - a genuine sense of communion. Its influence echoes through countless disciples who came of age beneath its speakers.
Away from the booth, Regisford held senior A&R positions across Atlantic, MCA, Motown and more, helping shape the careers of emerging artists while working alongside some of the biggest names in contemporary R&B. Equally at home in boardrooms and basements, his career bridged commercial music and underground culture in a way few figures have ever managed. Regisford is attached to the careers of countless stars including Zhane, Christopher Williams and Jody Watley. After years of championing Afrobeat at Shelter, he forged a relationship with the Kuti family, licensed Fela Kuti's catalogue to Motown, signed Femi Kuti, and executive-produced Femi's first releases for the legendary label. It remains one of the defining achievements of a career built on expanding musical horizons.
Then there's the unstoppable production and remix legacy. Whether reimagining Luther Vandross, Mariah Carey, Janet Jackson or Sade, Regisford's touch became synonymous with dancefloor transcendence.
Regisford continues to champion the beauty in patience - trust - storytelling. His performances remind us that house music was never simply a soundtrack to nightlife – it was, and remains, a culture rooted in soul, liberation and collective joy.
To experience Timmy Regisford is not simply to witness one of house music's defining figures. It is to stand in the presence of one of its great protectors, still illuminating the path forward by honouring everything that came before.
