Descripción

Enter The Drexciyan Empire—an immersive Detroit techno, Afrofuturism and visual storytelling experience featuring artist and world builder Abu Qadim Haqq. For one evening at Detroit’s historic Motown Mansion, audiences will enter the mythology of Drexciya through projected artwork, archival imagery, immersive spatial sound and an intimate artist conversation. Haqq will reveal the creative vision behind Drexciya’s underwater civilization and examine its connections to Detroit techno, Black cultural memory, resistance, identity and speculative worldbuilding. Internationally recognized for defining the visual language surrounding Drexciya and Underground Resistance, Haqq transformed electronic music into an expanded universe of maps, characters, histories and symbols. His work has helped shape the global imagination of Afrofuturism while preserving a vital chapter of Detroit’s cultural legacy. The program features a live artist Q&A with Abu Qadim Haqq, moderated by Juliette Latona, founder of Latona Expansion Group LLC. Music by Huey Mnemonic and immersive spatial sound by Weather Citizen will extend the experience beyond the conversation, bringing sound, image and environment together inside one of Detroit’s most historical settings. Presented by Latona Expansion Group LLC, Mask Consortium, Music Origins Project and Immerse 313 LLC as part of Detroit Month of Design. Sunday, September 27, 2026 5–8 PM Motown Mansion 918 W Boston Boulevard, Detroit, Michigan Capacity is limited. Advance registration is strongly recommended.
