Silicon Radio x Soul House: Andrés aka Dez Andrés (Detroit)

Silicon Radio and Soul House are teaming up once again to welcome Detroit legend Andrés aka Dez Andrés for his Portland debut. Join us for a summer Sunday session on July 26 at the White Owl patio, with local support from Cee White and C Powers. Andrés, aka Dez Andrés / DJ Dez, is a Detroit DJ, producer, percussionist, and crate-digger whose sound brings together house, hip-hop, soul, funk, Latin rhythms, and the deep musical history of Detroit. Born Humberto Hernández, he is the son of Cuban percussionist Humberto “Nengue” Hernández and began playing drums at a very young age before becoming one of Detroit’s most respected selectors and producers. A key figure in Detroit’s hip-hop and dance music scenes, Dez came up around Motor City musicians including Amp Fiddler and J Dilla, later serving as DJ for Slum Village. As Andrés, he became closely associated with Moodymann’s Mahogani Music and KDJ labels, releasing a run of soulful, sample rich records that connect Detroit house with hip hop’s beatmaking language.
