Descripción

Tonight, freshly appointed Nowadays resident x3butterfly curates their first Residency Night. x3butterfly is a New York-based Mexican-American DJ and producer native to Detroit whose compelling artistry, somatic sensibility, and distinctly fluid approach are informed by their multifaceted background in experimental performance art, classical and contemporary dance, and interdisciplinary queer underground expression. Translating ego, fantasy, intimacy, and spirituality into embodied sonic experience, x3butterfly can be heard combining acid, electro, and dubstep with dark industrial and experimental ambient textures, as much as journeying through drum & bass, house, breakbeat, UKG, and a variety of music of Latin influence, always both embracing improvisatory surprise and extending an urgent yet approachable contemporary transatlantic articulation of underground culture, queer community, and experimental scene- and world-building. Both mirroring their sensibility and complementing their sound, x3butterfly has invited Jeremy Sylvester and The Carry Nation—two unimpeachable heroes of the transatlantic dance music underground—to join them in the booth. One of the most prolific heads and consistent presences in UK garage and house music history, Birmingham-born Sylvester co-founded Dubtronix in 1994 before becoming a key figure in London’s garage movement, producing under 60+ aliases (including Sly, Miles Fontaine, Champagne Bubbler, GI Sly, Groove Connektion, Big J, Deep Cover, and G.O.D.) and as part of Club Asylum. Sylvester’s vast repertoire coheres around his signature blend of 90’s deep house, wonky tech, and soulful grooves with oldskool 4x4 garage rhythms, producing and performing with an arsenal of huge tunes that have defined the sound of the UK underground for over three decades. Equally quintessential to both the sound, the history, and the feeling of their local underground, The Carry Nation is Nita Aviance and Will Automagic—DJs, producers, and pillars of the queer community whose style and method are both deeply rooted in and fundamentally intertwined with the historical arc of New York City's most affirming nightlife experiences. With roots traceable back to legendary NYC nightlife institutions including The Loft, The Limelight, Vandam, Mr. Black, and Westgay, more recently, the duo is best known for their beloved decade-long eponymous Good Room residency, their roving marathon sessions under the name “They Went On Forever,” and their record label Major Records, co-run with Mike Servito and Justin Cudmore. The Carry pumps a boisterous, bitchy, bass-heavy open-format sound that, in any and all contexts, works to honor, affirm, and continue the legacy of New York’s legendary queer house music underground. /// RSVP is $10 before 11pm and $15 before midnight. An RSVP is good for one person. If you're bringing friends, please have them RSVP here as well. We stop taking RSVPs at 6pm on the day of the party. In order to receive the RSVP discount, you must be at the ticket desk by the cutoff time and not just in line. It's wise to arrive early to make sure you're not standing in line when the time comes. An RSVP does not guarantee entry. Sometimes parties do sell out, so if you want to be sure you'll get in, it's best to grab a ticket in advance. /// Entry is at the discretion of our door staff. Online purchases are limited to four tickets maximum per person. If tickets are sold out here, we always hold a good amount at the door. We will do our best to admit those without tickets but entrance is not guaranteed. Violence, non-consensual touching, racist, homophobic, transphobic, sexist, ageist or other discriminatory language, and leering are not allowed within our walls or in our back yard. If someone says or does something to make you feel uncomfortable while you’re here, let us know. /// Accessibility: The wheelchair entrance to our indoor space is in the driveway, which is the access point most commonly used to enter Nowadays. During parties the driveway gate is locked, so please ask staff at the street entrance for assistance with entry. All of our bathrooms are gender-neutral. There is one accessible stall indoors. Just ask any Nowadays staff member for the key, and they can show you the way. During parties, seating is available both on and off the dance floor. While we don’t have a dedicated quiet space indoors during parties, the booths next to coat check are a little quieter, and the deck and back yard a little quieter than that. Most nighttime parties include the use of strobe lights and water based haze.
