PHRE will showcase local and international artists working in experimental pop music from Greece, Sudan, France, Colombia, Italy, Lebanon and other countries. The focus is not on world music, but on decolonial and progressive trends in contemporary music. The festival’s name is inspired by the Afrofuturist Sun Ra, who used the term ‘PHRE’ (pronounced free) to challenge genre boundaries.
Roda de Santo (Brazil/Portugal)
[DE] Roda de Santo ist ein Musikprojekt, das 2021 in Lissabon von in Portugal lebenden brasilianischen Künstler:innen gegründet wurde. Das Kollektiv widmet sich der Feier von Terreiro-Musik und afro-diasporischen Traditionen wie Umbanda und Candomblé, wobei es deren Grundlagen bewahrt und zugleich mit zeitgenössischen Klängen in Dialog tritt.
Die Gruppe, bestehend aus Alvaro Lancellotti, Karla da Silva, Sara Cabral, Juninho Ibituruna und Bartolo, verbindet traditionelle Percussion, Gesang und Rhythmusklatschen mit elektronischen Elementen und schafft so eine Klangästhetik, die Ahnenwissen und Innovation miteinander verknüpft.
[EN] Roda de Santo is a musical collective formed in 2021 in Lisbon by Brazilian artists based in Portugal. The group celebrates terreiro music and Afro-diasporic traditions such as Umbanda and Candomblé, preserving their foundations while engaging with contemporary sounds.
Comprised of Alvaro Lancellotti, Karla da Silva, Sara Cabral, Juninho Ibituruna, and Bartolo, the ensemble blends traditional percussion, vocals, and handclaps with electronic elements, creating a sound that bridges ancestry and innovation.

[DE] Julia Barbossa aka Bigu ist Teil des Import Export Teams. Mit ihren Veranstaltungen hat sie für die brasilianische Diaspora der Stadt eine Lücke geschlossen. Ihr DJ Set zwischen Manguebeat, Brazilian Boogie und Funk stellt die perfekte Umrahmung des Abends dar.
[EN] Julia Barbossa, also known as Bigu, is part of the Import Export team. Through her events, she has filled a gap for the city’s Brazilian diaspora. Her DJ set, blending Manguebeat, Brazilian Boogie and funk, provides the perfect backdrop to the evening.
