Mice Parade, a seminal US indie/post-rock/electronica project led by Brooklyn-based drummer/composer Adam Pierce and hugely popular in Japan, is reuniting in a surprise reunion! Their first Japan tour in 13 years will take them to Kyoto and Tokyo! A special performance featuring a full seven-piece band has been confirmed! In the late '90s, led by Tortoise, Mice Parade brought new musical and acoustic experiences to the world. Even amid the post-rock movement, which cross-bred with techno, electronica, and other club music artists, Mice Parade, a pioneering New York band on par with the Chicago acoustic movement led by Tortoise, garnered numerous followers and influenced Japanese artists such as Clammbon and toe. (Ikuko Harada will also be making a guest appearance at the tour's finale in Tokyo on June 22nd.) Blending the delicate structural beauty of post-rock, the organic rhythms of Brazilian music and jazz, and the atmospheric feel of electronica, they continue to renew their one-of-a-kind sound, from lyrical numbers to international tunes and shoegaze. They have captivated listeners worldwide with numerous classic albums, including their masterpiece "Obrigado Saudade," and here in Japan, their numerous live performances, including at Fuji Rock Festival, have become legendary. Their first album in 10 years, "lapapọ," released in 2022, challenges them to try new things, but also serves as a culmination of their work, featuring the participation of all of the singers who have previously been part of their live band. Here at METRO, we saw their predecessor band, the Dylan Group, come to Japan for the first time in 1999. From there, the Dylan Group evolved into Mice Parade and gained worldwide support. Their dynamic playing and indescribable ensemble created legendary live performances that captivated audiences every time they visited Japan, and it's no exaggeration to say that they determined the direction METRO would take from then on. Their impact remains undiminished to this day!
