FROM SEA TO TABLE At the heart of Mar à Mesa is Arte Xávega, Caparica’s centuries-old fishing tradition, where local fishermen bring the day’s catch in from the Atlantic using a method passed down through generations. The rhythm of the sea sets the rhythm of the evening. As the fishermen return and the catch comes in, it makes its way from sea to fire to table. Prepared over open flames, it becomes the centre of a shared feast, served around one long table facing the Atlantic as the sun goes down. Mar à Mesa brings together fishermen, cooks, winemakers and our local community to celebrate the people, produce and traditions of this stretch of Portuguese coast, and to help keep their stories and traditions alive.
