Descripción
Back in the early '90s, they were discovered by the legendary Gilles Peterson. Brothers Shuya and Yoshi Okino were active as DJs when Peterson encouraged them to form Kyoto Jazz Massive, establishing them as pioneers of Japan’s jazz-club crossover scene. Assembling a full band, they began performing live—a format they continue to maintain today.
The Japanese innovators released their debut compilation CD, Kyoto Jazz Massive, in 1994, followed by their breakthrough 2000 single "Eclipse" on the renowned Compost imprint. International acclaim arrived with their 2002 debut full-length album, Spirit of the Sun.
Since 2004, they have toured extensively across Europe and Asia as the Kyoto Jazz Massive Live Set. Alongside their own compositions, KJM consistently output high-profile remixes, earning a reputation as highly sought-after producers. As DJs, they remain regulars on global dance floors, touring extensively throughout Britain, Germany, Italy, France, and the US. Their appearances in Zagreb during the 2000s as part of the iconic Kontrapunkt series are still fondly remembered.
Now, after a long hiatus, they return to Zagreb to deliver their signature fusion of live jazz and electronic music.
