Moroccan music, hybrid electronic, Chaâbi & diaspora club music __________________________________ To accompany the carte blanche at the Tangier Cinémathèque, MIRA, Le Cosmos and Karmen Camina are presenting a hybrid evening combining music and cinema. The musical programme in the main hall (gallery) is curated by the Diaspora collective (ongoing), whilst the programme of short films in the smaller hall (club) has been selected from submissions by the Tangier Cinémathèque and Le Cosmos. The club will be transformed into an intimate screening room for the occasion. Room 𝓬𝓵𝓾𝓫 - Screening from 11.20 pm ★ Mémoire 14 by Ahmed Bouanani (1971, 25 mins.) Mémoire 14 is unique in Moroccan cinema. It is the only creative documentary to alternate between newly shot footage and film archives. The latter date from the French occupation of Morocco. ★ Ne jamais s’arrêter de crier by Abdellah Taïa (2023, 10 mins) The writer and filmmaker Abdellah Taïa writes a letter to his gay nephew, Brahim, to help him overcome his fear, to support him, to walk alongside him. To love him deeply. ★ Petit Taxi by Samy Sidali (2022, 28 mins.) Oussama takes one fare after another as customers hop into his Casablanca taxi. He becomes a guide and matchmaker for these souls, for the brief duration of a shared journey in the intimacy of a car’s interior. These short films will be interspersed with Subaru, Pi and DRHM, music videos by Cheb, a Moroccan musician, songwriter and videographer. Self-taught, he works alone from his living room, crafting his art around Moroccan Chaabi music.
