Breaking out of the concert hall, Gabriel Prokofiev's event series, Nonclassical curates cutting edge contemporary classical and experimental music. Starting out at pubs in East London in 2004, offshoots have happened everywhere from Kings Place, Cargo, XOYO, Scala, the Barbican and The Roundhouse. Since 2011, Nonclassical has been invited to curate nights around the world including Estranha Festival, Sao Paolo, Ynight Swtizerland as well as at clubs in Berlin, Paris, New York and afterparties for symphony orchestras in Seattle and Toronto. Nonclassical releases music by today's most groundbreaking composers and performers, with a vision of classical music free from its old-fashioned constraints. Recent artists have included NWAKKE, Harry Górski-Brown, Beatriz Ferreyra and many more, alongside remixes by artists such as Matthew Herbert, KMRU, Pavel Milyakov, Thom Yorke, Tim Exile, Hot Chip and others. The label was founded in East London in 2004 and has featured work by over 50 composers and dozens of performers. This output represents a broad cross-section of classical music's latest generation, from the radical avant garde to the pop-inspired, from DIY electronics to the symphony orchestra.
