Jaiva is a celebration of freedom of movement through sound. We are a Black led party promoting the best African electronical music on the scene. ‘Freedom of movement’ means we’re not afraid to explore the meeting point between African electronical music and other genres including, but never limited to, highlife, disco, jazz, psychedelic and funk. Exploring genres that aren’t the mainstream in Glasgow sets Jaiva apart from the rest. We’re a small movement and we’re growing. Our party focuses on promoting Black DJs in Glasgow and from around Southern Africa, encouraging cultural exchange between the distant countries and finding common ground. Although we’ve moved on up to one of the best clubs in Glasgow, we never want to loose our community roots. We began playing small venues and social clubs in Glasgow with a hand built soundsystem, a BBQ and some of the best upcoming Black DJ’s in Scotland. Keeping accessibility at the core of who we are is a must, so we keep a significant quota of our tickets at an affordable price to remind working class and minority communities that they are part of our movement. We thrive off of diversity, and we thrive when no one is exploited, not the artists, the music, the venue, or the scene. Everyone gets paid fairly, and we start to close the pay gap between the richest and the poorest in the music scene.
