It Athens

Who We Are — IT (Independent Transmission) IT is not just a venue. It is an organism that has been evolving continuously since 2003. 2003 — IT Record Shop (Massalias St., Athens) IT began on 17 November 2003 as an independent record shop in the centre of Athens. From the very beginning, it functioned as an alternative cultural hub for music lovers, offering releases, ideas and sounds far beyond the mainstream. It quickly became a reference point for the city’s electronic and experimental music community. 2011 — IT The Place After years of activity, IT moved and transformed into IT The Place, housed in a neoclassical building in Exarchia (Kleisovis Street). The turning point came during the presentation of the album Ambrosia (Ultimae Records) and a live performance by Sync24, where the space revealed its true identity: a multi-disciplinary venue for music, art and experimentation. Over the years, IT The Place hosted countless memorable events with artists such as: Aes Dana, Solar Fields, Asura, Vibrasphere, X-Dream, The Delta, Eat Static, Human Blue, Antaro, Joti Sidhu, Battle of the Future Buddhas, Ree.K, Tim Schuldt and many more. 2019 — Displacement & Resistance In June 2019, gentrification reached our doorstep. The building was sold, part of a wider transformation of Exarchia into boutique hotels and short-term rentals. Instead of disappearing, we chose to stay. We relocated a few streets away, next to the Polytechnic, on Solomou Street, historically linked to Athens’ underground culture, and continued our mission under a new name: December 2019 — IT Athens The space re-opened as IT Athens, a two-stage venue: Aquarium Stage (ground floor + balcony) The Deep Stage (basement) IT Athens supports all forms of electronic music, experimental sound, visual arts and hybrid events — remaining flexible, independent and artist-driven. Our motto remains unchanged: “You cannot download our souls.”
