Info
History At Play, LLC (HAP) was founded in 2010 by Artistic Director Judith Kalaora to chronicle the lives of influential and often forgotten figures. Offering tailor-crafted Immersive Living History Experiences, HAP is committed to employing like-minded artists from around the globe. Kalaora is a professional educator, award-winning playwright, actress, and living historian.
Kalaora is internationally acclaimed for portrayals of Revolutionary War Heroine Deborah Sampson, Technological Phenom Hedy Lamarr, and NASA Challenger Shuttle Teacher in Space Christa McAuliffe. HAP has redefined immersive theatre as a pop culture teaching tool, exposing audiences to points of view entirely different from their own.
HAP is a New England Foundation for the Arts touring troupe; a recipient of Massachusetts Cultural Council awards; a four-time winner of the Bob Jolly Charitable Trust Grant; the 2019 recipient of the Dr. Bobby Gilmer Moss Lectureship Series Award, granted by the National Society of the Sons of the American Revolution; the 2021 winner of the Women in the Arts Award, granted by the National Society of the Daughters of the American Revolution; and the 2023 winner of a Massachusetts Growth Capital Corporation Inclusivity Grant. Kalaora completed the United States Army War College’s National Security Seminar in 2024. She was one of approximately 100 civilian participants from around the USA invited to collaborate with the best minds in the United States Military and its allies.
History At Play, LLC has created a successful business model that is widely acknowledged and appreciated by the history, corporate, educational, and entertainment fields for breaking the mold of traditional hi-calibre touring theatre, along with virtual and hybrid events.
