Based in San Juan, Puerto Rico, multidisciplinary artist, Villana, is a self taught DJ, turned producer, with a background in writing, classical ballet and theater. Introduced to the scene by attending festivals in the island, she later gained insight on the swing of the industry by working guest lists, artist hospitality and as an all around production assistant for other events. Inspired by the craft and culture that originated the club scene we experience today, her work is heavily influenced by house music and the liberation movement its origins represent. For the past 8 years she’s cut her teeth playing underground parties in Puerto Rico, where she joined local collective Lagente Tumbao in their efforts to diversify the island’s nightlife and create safe party spaces for queer people. Her sets draw upon an eclectic blend of genres and styles, mixed with sharp technique, and brazen risk taking to create the perfect atmosphere for escape. A dancer before being a DJ, she’s developed a keen sensibility for what music moves her. Whether it’s house, techno, a ballroom cut, reggaeton or something experimental, her sets strive to create a space for experiencing ecstasy, joy and connection no matter how functional or deconstructed her selection. Most recently last year in March, Villana joined Villano Antillano as her DJ on the “La Sustancia X” international tour performing at festivals such as SXSW, Primavera Sound, Lollapalooza and Estereo Picnic, to name a few. As part of the tour, Villana played several warmup sets at festivals such as, Arenal Sound, Bilbao BBK Live, Fan Futura, Roskilde Festival, and Esperanzah! Festival. In September 2023, after performing alongside Villano Antillano for her concert at Sala Apollo, in Barcelona, Villana was booked by the iconic party TORO to play at Nitsa Club. On January 2024 a preview of an upcoming remix for Puerto Rican singer, songwriter and musician MIMA aired exclusively on NTS radio as part of fellow rican collective Radiored’s new monthly residency. The remix for MIMA’s Bachaqué", was released February 2024 as Villana prepares to release her first original compositions, a body of work she’s been working on for the last 4 years.
