Biografía

Upi is gone. Say hello to Ukko! Ukko is DJ Upi’s actual first name and it means the Finnish god of thunder. It is also a very logical choice as his new artist name since nowadays he is all about pumping tracks (with a deep soul), strobe lights and smoke even though sometimes a visit to the deep end of smoking house or disco is a mandatory thing to do do. Ukko doesn’t usually play at normal clubs or bars but concentrates on excellent underground action and special events alongside co-hosting MiscBehaving show on Bassoradio together with Oded Peled and DJ Drumlin. Ukko has already performed peak time sets in Slakthuset (Stockholm) and his massive Paino. underground parties which are headlined by the likes of Makam (Dekmantel, Ostgut Ton) and Trevor Deep Jr. (HPTY, Nsyde). To top this, he’s been firing some serious techno bombs at underground parties like LahtiUG, KatveUG and Metsälä in Helsinki. Ukko is making some time for finding his true self in 2017 but watch out, he might be flashing his trademark sound somewhere nearby you! More about DJ Upi before the time of Ukko: In 2013-2016 Upi performed in front of 2000 people who were wearing nothing but bikinis or swimming shorts in a water park called Serena in Finland. That was no biggie even though it was snowing outside every damn time. His usual routines also include playing on boats, in a public sauna building or old train tunnels (or whatever just gets him off). The first ever underground party Upi built was held in an old cannon cave and the current gig schedule includes another gig under an old power plant. Upi is part of the Berlin-based Jack The Box brotherhood and a long term co-worker at Misc. Management, the oldest DJ booking agency in Finland. Together they formed the base for his radio broadcasts: Jack The Box Helsinki Ambassadors show was heard on Sweat Lodge Radio and MiscBehaving is still the longest running show on nationwide Bassoradio. The latter one is constantly visited by artists like Rolando, H.O.S.H., Dirt Crew and Jody Wisternoff, to name a few. JTB was hosted by Tyree Cooper and Bobby Starrr and the Finnish guests were pretty much everybody from Sasse to Roberto Rodriguez to Trevor Deep Jr. Upi is also the curator and resident DJ of a techno oriented party promoter organisation and ex-nightclub called Paino. in Turku where the headliners include no less than Marcel Fengler, La Fleur, Funk D’Void, Samuli Kemppi, Jori Hulkkonen, Kiki, and more. One can see the versatility of his musical knowledge by looking at his past with various concepts like Future House X, Danceteria, WE LIKE and Waterland festival where he warmed up dancefloors for everybody from Oliver Giacomotto, Low Steppa and My Digital Enemy to Vato Gonzalez, Jay Lumen, Luomo, Federico Scavo, Hot Since 82, Marco Lys and more. Even though his sound has changed with the new name, this knowledge makes sure Upi is always present at the moment and reads the crowd like an open book. Upi has played in almost every decent club night in Finland, rocked KaterHolzig and Humboldthain in Berlin and various venues in the Netherlands, Tokyo and around Asia. One thing you have to remember when you see this short dude wearing glasses in the DJ booth: He will rock your world. I mean, just look at all these quotes from some of the coolest promoters and top notch deejays in Finland to prove it: "When I witnessed Upi playing for sold out KaterHolzig in Berlin it was clear to to me that he is one of the most promising house music DJs in Finland." -Dj Orion (YleX - Finnish national radio) "Upi has a great vibe. His ability to surf between music that is easier to approach and deep underground sound is really good." -Roberto Rodriguez (Program Director - Bassoradio) "It is simple: Upi just plays good music." -Jan Zapasnik (Basso, Yle Folk, Snacksize) "He has the music, professional attitude, energy, enthusiasm, and the sense of style all there. He is already active and relatively familiar in Helsinki but has the potential to be one of the Finnish top DJs in the future." -Orkidea (Solaris, Perfecto) @ City newspaper 2011 "Upi has quickly shown his claws both behind the decks and as a promoter. You should definitely follow his moves." -Markus Rauramo (Temper2, Weekend Festival) "Upi is my brother from another mother!" -Heikki L (Waterland, Summer Sound Festival, Danceteria & WE LIKE)
