“Silly name, serious dance music" Unicorn Fukr is an indigenous creature of New Orleans born of mythical fornication. Erik Browne (the well-loved, charismatic man behind the Unicorn) has been thrusting his horn into the world of electronic dance music since 2007 magically transforming himself from a simple student of philosophy and insufferable vinyl collecting music nerd into his present form: a widely respected, world traveling, supernaturally skilled "DJ’s DJ", music producer, dance party promoter, label co-owner (Versed Recordings) and professional partier with a penchant for "getting weird.” Born in Chicago, with a family from Norway (where as a child he was first exposed to electronic dance music), and a Southern Louisiana upbringing, his eclectic background has been a source of diverse musical interest, influence and inspiration. While most music artists tend to identify with a specific sound or genre, Unicorn Fukr is not as easily defined. A technical master with a divinely discerning ear and a deep passion for the history, culture, traditions and evolution of dance music, Unicorn Fukr prances gracefully across the spectrum of sound -- from house and techno to dubstep, bass music and beyond! As a DJ, he meticulously pieces together only the most choice selection of tracks creating a seamlessly evolving beat groove where each new bass line drop only reinvigorates his audience’s commitment to the dance floor. Notorious for his extended sets, these magical mind and genre-bending journeys can often last 4-8 hours and can leave even the most ardent junglist a sudden fan of house music. “Very few can mix up the genres and styles and still have coherence within their sets … and Unicorn Fukr does it better than nearly everyone I know. A rare talent in the electronic music business,” proclaims Joe Nice, American dubstep pioneer. The Fukr’s magical powers are legendary, and have also given him the ability to produce Dionysian events in and around New Orleans, including: Antipop's Dirty Disco, a monthly Baton Rouge event from 2008-2013; Kompression, NOLA's world renowned underground house and techno event, since 2010; and the internationally infamous Church* (formerly known as Bass Church), Louisiana's original dubstep and bass music weekly, since 2010. Unicorn Fukr can also be found mobbing the streets of his natural habitat at mobile dance parties with the BeatBot and The Bull, as part of The Electronic 2nd Line Krewe. Through these events -- and during his early days hosting the Antipop Radio Show on 91.1 FM KLSU, where he was one of the first DJs in America to feature dubstep on FM radio -- Unicorn Fukr has been hard at work helping to pioneer the bass music takeover of Louisiana and the Gulf Coast and establishing and cultivating what is now a thriving underground dance music community. His efforts have helped put New Orleans on the map for both the international dubstep & bass music scene as well as the house & techno scene. When not busy holding it down for the underground sound with his regular residencies, Unicorn Fukr can be found performing and spreading his “Get Weird” ethos all around the world: From London to Holland to Berlin to New York to Detroit to Los Angeles and everywhere in between. He has enchanted dance floors of all kinds: from underground warehouse raves to remote nature gatherings to pool parties and roof tops to intimate night clubs and dance music institutions like Chicago’s Smart Bar, Denver’s Cervantes, San Francisco’s Monarch and Miami’s Electric Pickle. He has also performed at several major music festivals including Outlook in Croatia, Bonnaroo, Voodoo, SXSW, Buku, Infrasound and many more. And of course he can often be found playing at only the most exclusive of living room and hotel bathroom afterparties.
