Umbra Abra is lurking in the shadows, trafficking in a mysticism laced hybrid dance music that focuses on clean, forward thinking sounds and powerful melodies designed to bring the listener into a state of haunted reverie. The Los Angeles based DJ, producer, and promoter moves the spirit as much as the body, both with her music and her work as the music director for the party series Extasy Overnight and Spellcaster. She’s worked many times with vocalists Mica and Death By Romy, has several songs with LA-based producer and multimedia artist, Vora, and has shared bills with the likes of Swan Meat and Nicholas Jaar, along with being selected for Jaar’s Mentorship Program OVERTONES. Her most recent release, the EP “Kudzu,” exhibits a new level of refinement in her music, while exploring a tension between the organic and artificial, and referencing her upbringing as a trans woman in the American south east.
