Tricky Moreira
Biografía
Dj Tricky Moreira has been a key figure in the Toronto music scene for over two decades, playing flawless sets at hundreds of local & international events across North America, Europe, The Middle East, Caribbean, Latin Americas, and Asia. An official Ministry Of Sound DJ in Toronto, Moreira's technical knowledge and ability to manipulate music & sounds through turntable tactics & brilliant musical programming has enabled him to be recognized world-over for his talents.
Tricky's appreciation for music began in early 80's. While aspiring to be a choreographer, he put together a break-dance & rap crew in 1987 under the name Critial Stepp with original memebers who are currently influential in the local music scene. "I used to put together the music for our performances, mixing from tape to tape, phonograph to tape, you know - original skills - thought out processes. Dj'ing was still a new thing back then. You had a lot of leeway in creating new styles, cuts, & scratches. I played everything back then, musical ranges from hip hop, rnb & funk to reggae & soca - of course house music was always a my major influence - mixing, scratching, & breaking down music intellectually always had a major influence on me, period". Moreira's ability to manipulate and transform music led him to the development of WFP Studios where he began producing music for his now international record label, Blue Elephant Recordings. Tricky's music has been distrubuted from coast to coast, and has landed spots on other international radio shows such as BBC Radio One's The Essential Mix Show with Pete Tong. Moreira's remix of Jully Black's "Sweat Of Your Brow" for Univeral Music won him Best Dance/Electronic Song Of The Year at the CUMA's (Canadian Urban Music Awards), and lead to follow up remixes for the same artist, as well as Mary J. Blige, 50 Cent, Drake, Slakah The Beatchild, Melanie Durrant, Kim David, Famous, Dru, and many others. Moreira was Toronto's first to plow through RnB by adding a house swing, creating a stirring movement of new sounds, and meshing produced house music originals, as opposed to mash-ups.
With a Diploma in broadcasting and serious skills that pay the bills behind the decks, Toronto's hit radio station Milestone Radio's FLOW 93.5FM boasted Tricky Moreira as one of their most successful Djs & On-Air Personalities for good reason. Moreira's show, 'This House', kept listeners up through the late nights to early morning hours catching an earful of beautifully mixed Deep, Tribal, Classic, and originally remixed House Music: music that transcends time and space. Tricky throws in the occasional funk & disco track over raw beats - & also manipulates urban tracks to fit over house rhythms. His guests include a slew of local and internationally acclaimed Dj's, producers, vocalists & artists. Moreira's 'This House' radio show spun into an international success, landing him show in Russia, France, the UK, and Germany, and has been recognized worldwide for over 10 years; winning Tricky Moreira over eight distinguished awards in broadcasting, DJ'ing, and as a celebrity media personality.
"I have an incredible desire to succeed, coupled by an instinctive nature to dissect music. That's my trick..."
