Tommy O’Rourke is a DJ from Chicago. He started buying records when he was 14. When he first began collecting, he was mostly into ambient, noise, and post-rock: sonic landscapes that inform his selections to this day. After college, he moved to Vienna, where his roommates introduced him to the city’s clubs and underground parties. After a formative night out at Berlin’s now defunct Griessmuehle, he decided, when he got back to the US, he would take up the decks. Since his return, he has focused on digging through the record shops of Chicago with a particular interest in the local history: the disco and house musics (yes, plural) that got the scene rolling in the 80s and 90s: italo, jack, acid, deep. Today, his sets, while rooted in Chicago house, are genre-bending excursions that feature detours into EBM, electro, bleep, and minimal techno. Mostly, he just likes to dance.
