The Light Surgeons are a group formed from the legendary UK media arts studio that creates moving image work, live performances, installations, and experiences at the intersection of live and electronic music, documentary film, fine art, and creative technology. The studio was established in 1995 and is led by artist, director, and creative producer Christopher Thomas Allen. Allen brings together unique teams of creatives around each project the studio undertakes drawing on an extensive network of creative talents that work in the complementary fields of audio-visual production, post-production, and interaction design. Through the collaboration of this network of award-winning artists, filmmakers, animators, designers, and software developers, the studio produces a diverse range of creative projects that blur the boundaries between art and design. The Light Surgeons have built a reputation for crafting groundbreaking live audio-visual performances and pioneering "live cinema" and audio-visual art in the UK. Their projects combine in-depth research into human stories, subject matters, and themes that enlighten and move their audiences with lush original soundtracks that fuse electronica, ambient, experimental, and contemporary classical compositions. The artistic collaboration at the heart of this group has changed over the years but currently involves media artist and filmmaker Christopher Thomas Allen, and media artist and composer Tim Cowie.
