Influenced by big beat, house, techno, psychedelia, electro, and indie dance, the duo—composed of Diego Mapa (sampler) and Jay Gapasin (drums)—delivers live sets known for their hypnotic builds, raw percussive energy, and euphoric release. In 2020, Tarsius released their sophomore LP Culture Cow, which was hailed by NME Asia as one of the best Southeast Asian releases of the year. A limited vinyl run in 2022 sold out within a week. Their boundary-pushing collaborations include Disco Manila with Stones Throw artist Vex Ruffin (2021). They followed up with a remix of Ruffin’s Tapang Naman, released on Stones Throw's Lite Ace Frequency Remixes. That same year, Lisbon-based electronic artist GPU Panic remixed their single Agos (from Culture Cow), released via Discotexas Records. Tarsius gained international recognition when London producer Four Tet played their track Nightlife on BBC Radio 1 and Boiler Room, and later aired Baluga 2000 (from their 2015 EP) on Rinse FM UK. UK electronic duo Dark Sky (Monkeytown Records) also featured their track AM (More Rice Records, 2017) in an NTS Radio mix. Earlier in their career, Tarsius remixed UK band Ladytron, featured on the 2013 Record Store Day release Gravity the Seducer Remixed. They were also remixed by Swiss producer Manuel Fischer on Igado EP, the first vinyl release from Southeast Asian label More Rice (2017). They’ve opened for international artists including Four Tet, Toro y Moi, Ningen OK (Japan), Max Tundra (Warp Records), Free the Robots, and Delorean (Spain). Tarsius has performed at festivals and venues across Asia and Europe, including Clockenflap (Hong Kong), Mai Asia Festival (Osaka), Wonderfruit (Thailand), Malasimbo Festival (Philippines), BIME Pro (Spain), and their own headlining show, Tarsius Live in BKK at de Commune in Bangkok (2019). In 2024, they released Spectrum, a 5/4 minimal-electro-house groove, available on Bandcamp and all major streaming platforms. In early 2025, their single Vagabond was featured on the website of The Wire (UK), accompanying Issue No. 498. Most recently in July 2025, they remixed Umpukan, a funk gem by legendary ‘70s Filipino band The Advisors, as part of the upcoming 7” vinyl compilation Umpak Remixes, curated by digger/producer Pasta Groove.
