Stephen Beaupré is a pioneering figure in Montreal’s electronic music scene, celebrated for over two decades in techno and micro-house innovation. His music blends electronic textures with organic sounds, crafting sonic landscapes of joy, nostalgia, and mystery. Starting as a teenage promoter in Ottawa, Stephen was drawn to the deeper, more unpredictable elements of house and techno. He became a cornerstone of Montreal’s music community after relocating there. In the early 2000s, he gained acclaim as part of the duo Crackhaus with Deadbeat (Scott Monteith), captivating audiences with their unique fusion of styles. His solo debut, Foe Destroyer (2006) on Musique Risquée and MUTEK_REC, showcased his distinctive approach with micro-samples and layered synths. Since then, he has released music on esteemed labels like Circus Company, Wagon Repair, and Perlon, continually contributing to the evolution of electronic music. In 2010, Stephen expanded his artistry with Gemmiform, an ambitious audiovisual project with visual artists Nancy Belzile, Patrick Bernatchez, and David Fafard, pushing electronic music into immersive, multi-sensory experiences. After several years dedicated to studio work, Stephen returns in 2024 with his new album Vanishing Night, following his 2018 release Kill Sugar. His latest work embodies his hallmark style, blending rousing beats, lush melodies, and haunting vocals—music crafted for connection deep into the vanishing night. With more releases planned for 2025, he continues to invigorate the electronic music landscape.
