Biografía
Kaan began his musical journey during an era when songs were primarily heard on radios or mixtapes. He had two main methods for finding new music: he either recorded his own mixtapes from radio broadcasts or made copies of his friends' homemade compilations using a dual cassette player, also known as a boombox. One of the first albums that sparked his interest in dance music was Falco 3, which he heard as a child and which included the hit song "Rock Me Amadeus."
Kaan was born in Istanbul and raised in both Istanbul and San Francisco, where he pursued a career in design. He didn't begin DJing professionally until he was in his 30s, while living in Buenos Aires. However, his love for electronic dance music goes back to the 90s, when he first encountered Detroit Techno through the work of Derrick May in 1999.
During his college years, he organized parties and brought some of the most respected electronic music DJs from Turkey to perform at these events. Among them were Havantepe, Batu of Bärtaub, Onur Ozer, and Ugur Project, all of whom have since become well-known DJ-producers worldwide.
Over the years, Kaan has developed a unique taste in music by exploring various genres. His sources of inspiration have been his friends with excellent music taste and the local music communities he has encountered while living abroad as an expat.
He enjoys a balance of duality in anything, and this is reflected in his music selection. His sets incorporate high BPMs and broken beats infused with calm ambient sounds, as well as a balance of major and minor harmonies, taking the listener on a journey to new and unexpected places.
His vinyl collection mainly comprises minimal, house, disco, dub, and experimental sounds, allowing him to create cross-genre DJ sets of his own. Those who are familiar with Berlin's club scene may recognize his style from venues such as Heide-Glühen's daytime parties, or Hoppetosse's events.
Today, spa2k calls Berlin home and enjoys the city's vast and diverse music scene.
