Biografía

Sista-Matic is a a multi genre DJ with a diverse taste in electronic music which she regularly represents in her DJ sets, but she is mostly known for the darker edge sounds of Old Skool Hardcore, Jungle Techno, Jungle and Drum & Bass. Supporting and pushing new producers; labels and their music as well keeping her 35+ year old Vinyl collection alive. Sista (real name Martina) grew up in her family home in South London, listening to progressive and psychedelic rock; and a lot of Synth driven music like Jean-Michel Jarre; Pink Floyd and Led Zeppelin. Jazz and Blues. Growing up reading her parents Stephen King Novels, and watching horror films from behind the sofa, she was always drawn to the atmospheric and more sinister side of Art and Music which still inspire her selections today. She started listening to Acid house when she was 8 years old when her elder brother bought his first pair of Turntables. He and his friends would take her to local London record shops before she could even see over the counter. She heard Unique 3 the Theme played by Colin Dale on Kiss FM one evening. Not yet old enough to attend the raves with her brother, but from that moment was hooked and determined to learn how to mix, sondid within a couple of years. She attended the Brits Performing Arts and Tech school in the Mid 90s studying Music Tech, Graphics and set and stage design. At home building a record collection including labels like Moving Shadow, Good Looking and Brain records. LTJ Bukem, Ratty and Omni Trio being some of her favourite artists. Attending her first World Dance in 1994, she soon become a regular raver at Labrynth, Club UK, Raindance, Slammin Vinyl and Helter Skelter. She has never lost that bug. Sista began her front line DJ journey around 10 years ago, wondering why she hadn’t had the confidence to move to the other side of the decks sooner. Playing on stations such as Fright Night Radio and CLR, and started playing at Events with Club Labrynth Radio and Fusion Hectic. Her mutual love for the music, and connection she felt with the dance-floor was reciprocated. In the following years she went on to play at events including Rupture, Epidemik, Distant Planet, Calling the Hardcore, The Jungle_List, The Box, Dance Conspiracy, Spectrum, Vinyl Justice, Dirty Dozen & Entrancement. Also gaining residencies with Fusion Hectic, Le Rave and more recently Lovebug in her home town of Brighton UK. She has performed sets at venues including Corsica Studios, Venue MOT, Fire & Lightbox and Bar 512 London. The Volks, The Hub and Zahara Brighton. The Fire Station Bournemouth, Café Rene Gloucester, The Roadmender Northampton. The Black Cat Club and many more across the UK supporting dozens of her musical idols and pioneers. Sista clearly loves all aspects of the rave and is a regular face both on the dance-floor and behind the scenes. Whether she has a camera in her hand capturing memories with her event photography Holographicz; on the decks playing tunes, or curating and promoting her own events, she clearly loves what she does and has a deep connection with the ravers and the music. Playing mainly underground Drum & Bass & Amen Jungle, as well as playing regular Old Skool 92/93 Hardcore & Jungle Techno sets. Her love for taking the crowds on a journey through the light & dark facets of heavy amen breakbeats, rumbling bass-lines and euphoric rides makes her a solid artist, with a lot to offer ravers and events looking for that underplayed and obscure sound on the dance-floor. Promoter of South coast events Astral Beats and Spectral Breaks, she showcases and books her idols that built the foundations she is so passionate about. Sista also clearly knows the importance of supporting and providing safe and diverse platforms to under the radar, younger or more under represented artists. Sista finds everything she does within the colourful world of Underground Music and rave a vital part of her identity and roots, and this shows in everything she does. Her newest venture, ethereal brand Spectral Breaks, encompasses the very best of the deep, dark-side of music deriving from the Amen Break. Old Skool-present day Breakbeat Hardcore; Jungle Techno; Jungle and Drum and Bass. With 2 memorable parties with/at Brighton's Volks Nightclub, she has worked with 2 Bad Mice, Equinox, Trax, Theory, Warlock, Distant Planet crew and many more. The Spectral Breaks crew aim to create an immersive, visual, safe and friendly musical space and experience for people to come together. She looks forward to organising more parties in coming months.
