Simon Cordiner is resident at the long standing and hugely satisfying disco and everything else night, Melting Pot. Simon's love of dance music was forged during a succession of lost weekends in the midst of the thriving early nineties Glasgow club scene. At venues such as the Sub Club and the Arches, he and other kindred spirits would commune week-in week-out to hear the best in Chicago House and Detroit Techno. It was not long before he himself caught the DJing bug, buying his first turntables and mixer, and collecting vinyl releases from seminal labels such as Trax, Prescription, Planet E and Underground Resistance. In 1998, he and a group of like-minded individuals combined forces to launch Traxx, a collective organising parties in intimate venues where quality underground music would be played by local residents. Within a year, they had established the much-loved underground dance music event Traxx at Soundhaus, with Simon taking up residency in the main room, a large warehouse space packed with 400 hedonists. Traxx at Soundhaus was something entirely new for Glasgow, operating an open-minded music policy across three unique areas. Not content to rest on his laurels, Simon sought out the roots of the Chicago and Detroit scenes and arrived at their musical forerunners from within disco and funk. In particular, mixtapes from inspirational Chicago clubs like the Warehouse and the Music Box introduced Simon to the classic disco sounds of New York and the off-kilter electronic sounds of Euro and Italo disco. He began to incorporate increasingly more disco in his sets, and in 2001 he helped form Melting Pot, where he was installed as resident. Simon has been a staple of the Glasgow DJ scene for years, playing regularly at the city’s best clubs and bars. He has also performed guest sets at festivals such as Rockness, T in the Park, Connect, as well as leading clubs in Edinburgh, Dundee, and London. Simon teamed up with Melting Pot co-resident Andrew Pirie in 2016 to take on a new residency at Edinburgh's magnificent wee gem of a club, Sneaky Pete's.
