From the tender age of 13, Sharik ‘Sharky’ Sayed has had his ear to the ground and has fostered his musical development to work as a DJ, a producer and web radio host. Additionally, Sharky has redirected his focus to work as Label Manager, Co-Owner and A&R of Smu[th] Music, one of the most dynamic and enterprising labels to surface in the past few years. Sharky's musical adventure began when a relative turned him on to Danny Tenaglia's Global Underground 010 from Athens, quickly turning the 13 year old's attention from everyday life in the suburbs to the global possibilities that electronic music was beginning to create. From there, Sharky spent as much time as he possibly could at local record stores, soaking up the newest plates from around the world and, more importantly, from the entire spectrum of dance, discovering exactly what it was that he liked about his newfound sounds. Emotive, well-produced music became his obsession and led him naturally into the realms of progressive and trance. This passion for discovering new music landed him a position as a record buyer for San Diego conglomerate CSL and tied him further into the dance music industry. A noticeable lack of quality dance releases and an overwhelming desire to support and encourage fellow electronic musicians resulted in a partnership with Washington D.C. based DJ, producer, and web radio host, Jav D. and ultimately in the formation of Smu[th] Music. With Smu[th], Sharky has implemented a flexible musical directive for the label; providing genre-free electronic dance music to its listeners while also ensuring that his artists are happy and have the freedom to create and to be creative. With Sharky's primary concentration being directed toward Smu[th], his personal music endeavors are few and exclusive. Thus far, he has worked to create projects on such outstanding labels as AVA Recordings, Neuroscience Recordings and [of course] Smu[th] Music. Pertaining to Sharky's DJ-ing capacity, his history is consumed with performances for many of Southern California's notable promoters including, but not limited to, Giant and Spundae.
