High above the dales somewhere there’s a joyful sunny spot in between clouds and the mills where Sara Garvey aka Phoenix Pearle / Ella may / Comfy Bella (also lovingly known as Synthia) is knitting side by side with her tiny dancers, sprinkling some digital / analogue hope for the humans with her future oriented musical flower garden. Born in London to a mixed heritage family, Irish/German father and Ugandan mother, Garvey’s exploration of music and consequently making her own has been organic, eclectic and in her own words without boundaries. Garvey starting out as a freestyle vocalist in a hip hop crew, Garvey joined Leeds based project OAK to write a debut album, after a leaked demo was payed by Giles Peterson on R1 the trio were quickly signed to heavyweight publishers BMG. Whilst writing and recording their album with the likes of Flood (NIN / U2) Youth, Chris Martin (Coldplay) Garvey continued to pen & release records in the early 2000's with the likes of MJCole, sticking close to her underground roots. Disillusioned with the major music industry, Garvey spent the summer in 2002 touring with Leeds co-horts Nightmares On Wax in Australia, then joined them back in the UK to write on their following album 'In A Space Outta Sound'. What was supposed to be a summer hiatus spanned to 7 years writing & touring with the band really cutting her teeth on the worldwide arena. The plan had always been to release her own music and in 2009 Garvey decided to form her own band Phoenix Pearle, spending a few years writing and releasing records under this moniker and becoming a regular contributor to Cafe Del Mar compilations, Garvey turned her hand to DJ-ing. A natural ear for music Garvey has become somewhat of a tastemaker, with her summer afternoon DJ sets seemlessly bumping multi genre soul tinged grooves to her late night DJ sets blending house / afro / broken beat & techno, have gained her an ongoing 4 year rooftop residency, bookings alongside the likes of Dimitri From Paris, Joey Negro, Norman Jay, Loz Goddard, guest spots in Croatia, and her own Comfy Bella event 'Moon Unit' at the various underground venues in Leeds. 2017 /18 has been big for Garvey, with the release of her highly anticipated vinyl release under the moniker 'Comfy Bella' released in the summer with early support from MCDE to Gilles Peterson / Stamp the Wax. DJ bookings across the UK and Europe and a roaring 2nd season of her now iconic summer terrace parties in Leeds. On top of this, she has a monthly 2-hour show on super cool Leeds-based digital station, Kmah Radio.
