His diverse musical background in jazz piano and record digging are important influences on his productions as well as his live & DJ-sets, blending sample-based MPC grooves, jazz harmonies, analogue synthesizers and dub elements. Sam Irl’s tracks are regularly played on the radio and in DJ-sets by well-known artists such as Gilles Peterson, Mr. Scruff, Lefto, Jazzanova's Alex Barck, Jimpster, Session Victim, Mad Mats, to name a few. Apart from his solo music, Sam releases records with Viennese techno pioneer and studio neighbour, Patrick Pulsinger, as „Pulsinger & Irl“, which focuses more on dub-heavy, analogue house and techno. They have played live at Berghain / Panorama Bar, Sonar Festival, Sziget Festival, Ars Electronica, Golden Pudel Hamburg, Zukunft Zurich and in other venues. Other collaborations on the Viennese label, International Major Label, are „Midnight Embassy“, a dubbed-out project with Angela Aux from Munich, as well as „Skymax“, together with Finnish producer Stiletti-Ana and Austrian musician Feater and „Mantra Mantra“ with Daniel Helmer, concentrating on moodier & atmospheric synthesizer-based vibes. As a (co-) producer, mixing & mastering engineer, Sam Irl frequently works together with artists and labels such as Tom Trago, Wake Dream Records, Neubau, Toy Tonics, Kryptox, Trikont, the duo Neuzeitliche Bodenbeläge (consisting of Niklas Wandt & Joshua Gottmanns) and Conny Frischauf (both releasing on Hamburg’s Bureau B), Demuja, Feater, Angela Aux, Marco Kleebauer, Grämsn along with other musicians and artists.
