Salam Kitty (fka Halal Kitty) began DJing as a sonic exploration into their mixed cultural roots and queer identity, using music as a way to connect to their heritage and local community. Always evolving and exploring, Salam Kitty brings an eclectic mix of bass heavy and percussive genres with fun edits, afro-electronic and left-field experimental techno and electro. As the co-founder of Scottish QTIPoC+ party Mojxmma, Salam Kitty began throwing parties in early 2020, out of necessity for a safe space for Queer PoC. During this time Mojxmma found a home at newly-opened Queer co-op, Bonjour. Since then, Mojxmma has become a staple in the local scene, providing a platform to celebrate the talent of local and international BPoC, with past guests and collaborators including the likes of Ase Manual, Blck Mamba and Byrell the Great. Following on from the success of Mojxmma, Salam Kitty has also grown as an independent DJ, having played alongside the likes of LSDXOXO, JYOTY and BLUMITSU, and at some of Scotland’s most infamous parties including Ponyboy, Healthy, OH141, Riverside Festival, the Art School and Peach.
