Sacre is the experimental Canadian curator now residing in Hanoi, Vietnam. After years moving through music scenes of the world with residences in Edmonton, Mexico City, Medellin, Melbourne, Bangkok, and a small Cambodian island - he’s found inspiration in Vietnam’s burgeoning music & arts scene - and has obsessively fed the region a plethora of bookings, sets, and boundary pushing projects over the 6 years at his adopted home of Hanoi, where he has launched a record label, festival, creative homestay and venue with an art gallery. With an eclectic balance, his sets span house,psych, disco, jazz, bass, ambient, and dub all based in outer-rim ecstatic body music with a psychedelic essence. Frequent appearances at mainstay clubs & festivals through Asia & Oceania has allowed this dynamic DJ the pleasure of opening stages for Radio Slave, Exos, Shubostar, Sebastian Leger, Curses, Bawrut, Zed Bias, Local Suicide and appearances on Mixmag, Hypebeast, and clubs like Night Cat (Melbourne), Safe Room (Bangkok), Savage (Hanoi), Decommune, Blaqlyte (Bangkok), The Lighthouse (Saigon), and heaps of festivals, renegade parties, and doofs. Throughout his time abroad he’s performed at clubs, radio shows, and festivals in Melbourne, Bangkok, Seattle, Saigon, New York, Sydney and is now embarking on a world tour starting in Vietnam with dates at mainstay clubs Savage, Mirage, and The Lighthouse, before taking to the decks in Manila Koh Phangan, Phnom Penh, and Singapore for Cherry Discotheque, and then onto Sydney, Seattle, Vancouver, Edmonton, Montreal, Toronto, before returning to Asia to cap off the tour in Taiwan & Japan. Curating mixes and productions for the dancefloor is only one facet of Sacre’s (Matthew MacPhee’s) creative outlet. He’s the host of Bloom FM, a radio channel on Ha Noi Community Radio centered around Bloom Outsider events, and festivals, and sounds of psychedelic revival. He’s co-founded Defused Mood records, which in 2023 will have a represented showcase at Outlook Festival in Croatia, and the UK. He’s launched ARCH. Cafe Bar & Art Gallery on Hanoi’s Westlake - a community driven art gallery and coffee shop with music studio facilities. He co-runs Secret Guests booking agency focusing on exporting Asian talent to the world, while also inviting International sounds to the region, and as of late Bloom Festival, and Treehouse Festival are his curatorial creations which bring together live music, art exhibitions, dj’s and performance art from around the region - with recent collaborations with Thai, Taiwanese, Pinoy, Singaporean, Australian, South African, Vietnamese, Khmer and other international artists. These bi-yearly events bring together all facets of experimental, psychedelic, and outside the box sound and visual artists to showcase in the great natural jungles in the Vietnamese countryside, where he partners with Vietnam’s infamous artist Dao Anh Khanh. Sacre looks to make the world smaller through the power of music, and his open arms approach to community has brought together communities from across the world, with his open project Sounds of the Nomads which looks to connect traveling artists, photographers, producers, stages designers, and more to local scenes throughout the world. This tour he will scout for unique artists in all corners to curate future events, festivals, and tours for the burgeoning scene in the Asia Pacific Region and connect with the wonderful scenes in Canada, USA, Europe, and abroad the most unique music ecosystems in the world.
